Hey! So Glad You're Here.
Recipes for the Future is an experiment in building momentum and practice in gathering and connection.
To experiment is to say: I have a question or a theory and I want to try things and learn more. I want to test my assumptions, gather data, and deepen my understanding.
To run an experiment is to believe that the current state can be improved upon.
I believe the way we connect with our friends, neighbors, and beloveds can be improved upon and that we must if we want to build a future that is more kind, resilient, compassionate, and just.
I believe in a future that is not dependent on fossil fuels, extraction, capitalism, or rugged individualism. I believe in a future rooted in regenerative practices, collective action, and meaning beyond the bottom line.
To be clear: policy and government action is required to build this future. Recipes for the Future is not a collection of self-care practices for the individual, but rather a tool kit for building and sustaining the collective and community networks that change minds, build power, and put pressure on key decision makers.
Most of these recipes are not explicitly political or about activism. They’re about building friendship and joy and that’s intentional and politically strategic. I take inspiration from adrienne maree brown and Rebecca Solnit in creating recipes that are centered on pleasure and hope and relationships because that’s what change is sustained on.
If we believe the future is going to be bleaker than the past— it will be.
Recipes for the Future is a collection of rituals, practices, and attempts to build a present that connects us more deeply in order to build a brighter future.
